Embrace Things That Work, Suggests Fred Harteis

People skills are so important in all areas of life. Everyone can benefit from developing their skills in dealing with people no matter what they do for a living. The book "How To Win Friends And Influence People" is one of the best books to read and study if you want to improve in this area...

“The world would be a better place if everyone would embrace the teachings of Dale Carnegie.” – Fred Harteis

Harteis notes, “The second book I read by Dale was “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” and I read and studied it during my high school days. The benefits have been astounding.”

Fred Harteis reports experiencing a real and measureable benefit from studying Carnegie’s lessons and principles.

Harteis explains, “ While in college I was elected class president three times only because of the principles followed in Dale Carnegies Books. I was a shy farm boy, but gained great confidence in public relations skills and people skills from being a student of the common sense wisdom of Dale. Business success is 87% people skill and 13% business skill. I firmly believe that the early exposure to Dale Carnegie’s writings has given me a high advantage. His principles are needed today every bit as much as when they were first written,” adds Fred.

Colombo DiSalvatore sets a great example when it comes to reading quality books. He is an avid reader of great books. Thanks for sharing this with us...

Colombo DiSalvatore, “There is a difference in quality of reading experiences. Popular novels of today would probably often be put in category as junk food for the brain, but literature that causes us to think and change for the better is the experience that Ralph Waldo Emerson describes.”

Fred Harteis: Challenges Faced Provide Starting Points

Fred Harties shares some great perspective on challenges and goal setting. These leadership insights can be very helpful for Quixtar IBOs...

Fred Harteis: “John Dewey once wisely remarked that arriving at one goal is the starting point of another. William Bennett added to that thought with the comment he made below explaining the benefit of having the goal also be a challenge. His point is the development potential represented by goals or issues that could also be viewed as challenges and obstacles. You can see why this powerful topic is ideal for Bennett’s book of Virtues.”

Fred Harteis: Thanks To Veterans

We have many holidays throughout the year. Most Americans are just excited to have the day off of work. But we should also remember the importance of these holidays as Fred Harteis says so well here...

Amway/Quixtar's Fred Harteis: Celebration of Service

Fred Harteis: “Two of my thankful memories to our service people are May’s Memorial Day and the November‘s celebration of peace, Veterans Day. Each one reminds us that when we celebrate, we are remembering and recognizing the sacrifices of brave service people in the cause of freedom.”

Veterans Day - 1918 - It was on this day – the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 a.m. – that World War I came to an end. The Allied and Central Powers signed the Armistice in Marshal Foch’s railway car in the Forest of Compiegne, France. On May 24, 1954, Congress passed a resolution declaring November 11 “Veteran’s Day” – a national holiday to honor all of those who have served our nation in her armed forces.

Memorial Day – Was originally called Decoration Day as a commemoration of Civil War. In 1966, the federal government, under the direction of President Lyndon Johnson, declared Waterloo, New York, the official birthplace of Memorial Day. They chose Waterloo—which had first celebrated the day on May 5, 1866—because the town had made Memorial Day an annual, community-wide event during which businesses closed and residents decorated the graves of soldiers with flowers and flags.

Fred Harteis - “Hello Freedom Man”

Reading this just makes you proud to be an American!

Fred Harteis, “The message and meaning of the American serviceman was a message of freedom and hope. President Regan captured the spirit of this in his farewell address,”

Fred Harteis and Linda Harteis Reagan Wisdom

I've been thinking a bit at that window. I've been reflecting on what the past eight years have meant and mean. And the image that comes to mind like a refrain is a nautical one - a small story about a big ship, and a refugee and a sailor. It was back in the early eighties, at the height of the boat people. And the sailor was hard at work on the carrier Midway, which was patrolling the South China Sea. The sailor, like most American servicemen, was young, smart, and fiercely observant. The crew spied on the horizon a leaky little boat. And crammed inside were refugees from Indochina hoping to get to America. The Midway sent a small launch to bring them to the ship and safety. As the refugees made their way through the choppy seas, one spied the sailor on deck and stood up and called out to him. He yelled, "Hello, American sailor. Hello, freedom man."

A small moment with a big meaning, a moment the sailor, who wrote it in a letter, couldn't get out of his mind. And when I saw it, neither could I. Because that's what it was to be an American in the 1980s. We stood, again, for freedom.

A Fred Harteis great American moment favorite is Ronald Reagan, January 11, 1989, Farewell Speech

Billy Florence: Have A Second Half Mind Set

This is so true. You have to start and finish. Lots of people start things but it is important to not only start things but finish them...

Billy Florence, “Two skills required for progress are to start and to finish. Sports greats often suggest having a second half mindset. Coach Lou Holz teaches us that it’s always too soon to quit. Second half offers us the opportunity to walk away ‘a champion’. Be a strong finisher. Since how we think determines our actions, wanted to share some thoughts from Coach Holz."

Billy Florence: Lou’s Leadership Legacy

Jody Victor & Kathy Victor: Security Business Note

This is great advice for any business owner who may be using temp agencies...

Jody Victor, “More people are using the options offered by temp agencies. If your growing operation requires use of temporary workers, we want to share this success solution found by a mortgage corporation. Some excellent people are entering or reentering the workforce via temp agencies. Make sure you take advantage of the background checks they can do for you.”

Jody Victor and Kathy Victor Business Note
Security Success Story: The more temps you use, the more vulnerable you are. Accordingly, mortgage corporation Freddie Mac requires temp agencies to run background checks on every temp they supply. Agencies must use a consumer reporting company chosen by Freddie Mac – and the temp agency must pay for every check itself. This strategy lets Freddie Mac operate more securely and also leverages its substantial outlay of funds for temps. If you’re committed to using temps, try to get your agency committed to you.

Fred Harteis & Linda Harteis: Customer Service Business Tip

While this article from Fred Harteis has to do with the hotel industry, you can apply the lesson to any business or industry. Customer Service is a very important part of running a business...

Fred Harteis, “Long term taking care of the customer is what keeps a company in business. In the hospitality business one way to stand out from the crowd is making the stay at your hotel something that can’t be easily copied. This successful case study provides an excellent business service example.”

Fred Harteis and Linda Harteis Business Case Study – Customer Service

A hotel wanted to offer its guests a special experience in every aspect of their stay. So each guest room is uniquely decorated by a different designer and a virtual tour of every room is online at the front desk so guests can pick the rooms they want. The final touch is small but telling. To update the ever-present mini-bar – and encourage guests to use theirs – the hotel staff stock it with the snacks that the guests themselves request when they check in. Every detail counts.

Fred Harteis News Articles - Iran involvement suspected in Karbala compound attack

Fred Harteis News Articles - The Pentagon is investigating whether a recent attack on a military compound in Karbala was carried out by Iranians or Iranian-trained operatives, two officials from separate U.S. government agencies said.

"People are looking at it seriously," one of the officials said.

That official added the Iranian connection was a leading theory in the investigation into the January 20 attack that killed five soldiers.

The second official said: "We believe it's possible the executors of the attack were Iranian or Iranian-trained."

Five U.S. soldiers were killed in the sophisticated attack by men wearing U.S.-style uniforms, according to U.S. military reports. (Watch how attackers got into the compound )

Both officials stressed the Iranian-involvement theory is a preliminary view, and there is no final conclusion. They agreed this possibility is being looked at because of the sophistication of the attack and the level of coordination.

"This was beyond what we have seen militias or foreign fighters do," the second official said.

The investigation has led some officials to conclude the attack was an "inside job" -- that people inside the compound helped the attackers enter unstopped.

Investigators are looking particularly at how the attackers got U.S.-style military uniforms and SUVs similar to those used by U.S. troops. (Watch what could happen if the U.S. opts to strike Iran )

"'Who was behind it all?' was the fundamental question," the first official said.
