Amway's Joe Markiewicz - The Attitude of a Winner

John Maxwell calls attitude "the difference maker." I think that is what Joe Markiewicz is saying here. All things being equal, attitude makes the difference...

It takes a lot to win at something. It takes hard work. It takes persistence. It takes commitment. It also takes the right attitude! It is true whether building our business or trying to get in better shape. We have to do the work. There is no doubt about that. Attitude alone will not do it for us. But attitude can make the difference.

We all have to work on our attitude and "check" our attitude all the time. Sometimes it takes getting someone else's perspective to help us see that our attitude isn't where it needs to be. So make a commitment to work on your attitude. Attitude is a choice.

I like these thoughts about attitude...

Joe Markiewicz - Attitude Greats

"Always look at what you have left. Never look at what you have lost." - Robert H. Schuller

"Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." - Lou Holtz

"The optimist sees opportunity in every danger; the pessimist sees danger in every opportunity." - Winston Churchill

"Positive thinking won't let you do anything but it will let you do everything better than negative thinking will." - Zig Ziglar

Embrace Things That Work, Suggests Fred Harteis

People skills are so important in all areas of life. Everyone can benefit from developing their skills in dealing with people no matter what they do for a living. The book "How To Win Friends And Influence People" is one of the best books to read and study if you want to improve in this area...

“The world would be a better place if everyone would embrace the teachings of Dale Carnegie.” – Fred Harteis

Harteis notes, “The second book I read by Dale was “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” and I read and studied it during my high school days. The benefits have been astounding.”

Fred Harteis reports experiencing a real and measureable benefit from studying Carnegie’s lessons and principles.

Harteis explains, “ While in college I was elected class president three times only because of the principles followed in Dale Carnegies Books. I was a shy farm boy, but gained great confidence in public relations skills and people skills from being a student of the common sense wisdom of Dale. Business success is 87% people skill and 13% business skill. I firmly believe that the early exposure to Dale Carnegie’s writings has given me a high advantage. His principles are needed today every bit as much as when they were first written,” adds Fred.

Fred Harteis owns Harteis International, and North American business technology firm, Biznet Productions. A background in construction and agri-business laid Harteis’ business foundation. Under Fred’s leadership and vision, Harteis businesses have grown exponentially.

Harteis International is a family company. Harteis' children, Tonya, Fred and Annie, support worldwide operations.

Fred Harteis is the former President of the International Business Owners Association International (IBOAI).

Don Wilson: Lifetime Integrity

Integrity is important. This story is one of the best examples of integrity you will ever hear...

Don Wilson: I once read that there is no better test of a man’s integrity than his behavior when he is wrong. With that standard, this story of John Gedge is a testament to his integrity.

A very unusual letter was received by the traffic bureau in one Pennsylvania City. Officials in Philadelphia were astonished to receive a letter and a payment from a motorist who had been given a speeding ticket more than 50 years earlier. The date on the traffic citation was 1954. It turns out that Mr. John Gedge, an English tourist had been visiting the ‘City of Brotherly Love when he was cited for speeding. The penalty in those days was only $15. Gedge forgot about the ticket for almost 52 years until he discovered the original document in an old coat.

When asked about his unusual actions, Gedge age 84, now living in a nursing home in East Sussex replied, “I thought I’ve got to pay it. Englishmen pay their debts. My conscience is clear.”

Don Wilson: Thomas Jefferson would have agreed with Mr. Gedge. Jefferson said, “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.”

Don Wilson Sports News: Will Rodriguez Stay with Yanks

Alex Rodriguez says he wants to wait until the end of the season before he does any talk with the Yankees about contract extentions. The Yankees do not want to wait...

"Like I've said all year, I think it's something we'll do at the end of the year," Rodriguez said Thursday before the Yankees opened a four-game series at Tampa Bay with a 7-3 win over the Devil Rays.

Citing an anonymous source, the New York Daily News reported Friday that the Yankees have "made it clear" to Rodriguez and his agent, Scott Boras, that if the player opts out, his days as a Yankee will be over. The newspaper said the Yankees have no intention of being part of a bidding war if Rodriguez hits the open market.

Rodriguez has 3½ seasons left on his record $252 million, 10-year deal, but can opt of the contract this fall and become a free agent -- a decision the slugger would have to make within 10 days of the conclusion of the World Series. That would be Nov. 10 at the latest.

Rodriguez is owed $24 million in each of the next three seasons by the Yankees, with Texas offsetting much of the money by paying New York $8,116,000 next year, $7,101,500 in 2009 and $6,087,000 in 2010. He is guaranteed an additional $3 million annually by the Rangers, the original deferred money in his contract that was converted to an assignment bonus at the time of his trade to the Yankees.

Amway Don Wilson - Fun Fact From History

History is so full of fun information. How about this history fact about two of our countries great Founding Fathers. Our country was blessed to have men like Thomas Jefferson and John Adams and many others. These two men were both signers of the Declaration of Independence, they were also both Presidents of the United States and they were also both great friends.

Did you know that both of these Presidents and friends died on the exact same day? Not only was it the same day but it was a very special day...

Jefferson died on the Fourth of July, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, the same day as John Adams' death.

On July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, Adams died at his home in Quincy. His last words are often quoted as "Thomas Jefferson survives." Only the words "Thomas Jefferson" were clearly intelligible among his last, however. Adams was unaware that Jefferson, his great political rival — and later friend and correspondent — had died a few hours earlier on that same day.

The fact that both Adams and Jefferson, both of whom had been so instrumental in creating the Declaration of Independence, would die on the fiftieth anniversary of the date of its publication, is one of the greatest coincidences in history.

Don Wilson Sports News: Venus Williams Wins Wimbledon

Venus Williams had struggled with injuries and slid back in world rankings. But she has made a great comeback and just won Wimbledon. It is the tournament that every player wants to win and she has now won it 4 times! Only 3 other women have won at Wimbledon 4 times. She doesn't plan to stop at 4...

Venus Williams giggled as she clutched the championship trophy against her chest, threw back her head and whooped at the sky.

Winning Wimbledon never gets old.

Williams won tennis' most prestigious tournament for the fourth time Saturday, beating surprising finalist Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-1.

It was Williams' sixth Grand Slam title, and her first since winning Wimbledon in 2005. She was also the champion at the All England Club in 2000 and 2001.

At No. 31, Williams became the lowest-ranked women's winner in Wimbledon history. Plagued in recent years by injuries that sent her ranking sliding, she rediscovered her championship form this week on the surface that always seems to inspire her best efforts.

"It has been a long road back," Williams said during the trophy ceremony. "I brought it together here against some of the best players in the world, including Marion."

She lost 22 games in her final four matches, beating 2004 Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova on Wednesday, 2004 U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova on Thursday and French Open runner-up Ana Ivanovic on Friday.

"She loves the grass," said Williams' boyfriend, pro golfer Hank Kuehne. "And she loves the environment here."

Billy Florence & Jody Victor - IBOs Helping Neighbors

Serving others is one of the most important things we can do in life. And when we give to others not only do they receive but we also receive great joy. It is true that there is more joy in giving than receiving. I appreciate this about Amway & Quixtar. These companies do a great job of giving back in communities all over the globe...

Billy Florence of the IBO Trade Association notes that giving and helping our communities is a way of thinking and living for many of our association member Quixtar IBO’s. “Helping people live better lives is something our members, do year round,” adds Jody Victor

In 2005 Americans contributed more than $260.3 billion to philanthropy, 6.1% more than in the previous year, according to the Giving USA Foundation. “Helping people live better lives is something our members, Quixtar Independent Business Owners (IBOs), do year-round,” says Jody Victor of the Independent Business Owners Association International (IBOAI). “Whether through financial support or volunteering, Quixtar IBOs support hundreds of causes worldwide including the S.O.S Children’s Villages, World Vision, GrowersFirst, Power Soccer U.S.A., Habitat for Humanity, Operations Smile, International Aid and many more.”

“In addition, through the One by One Campaign for Children, Quixtar is a national sponsor of Easter Seals and joins IBOAI as a national sponsor of the U.S. Dream Academy,” says Billy Florence. “Founded by the Reverend Wintley Phipps, the U.S. Dream Academy is a nationally honored, values-centered after school program empowering at-risk kids to achieve their dreams.”

Amway's Jody Victor - Great Thought In Couplets

Reading positive and uplifting books has made a major impact on my life. I love biographies like Jody Victor because they help us to see how normal people like us have struggled but still accomplished great things. Reading other people's struggles from history can help us push through our struggles in life...

Jody Victor, “Martin Luther observed that every great book is an action and every great action is a book. The books that capture for us the great actions of ordinary men have influenced generations. That’s why I’m motivated to read history and biographies.”

Jody Victor & Kathy Victor – Quick Quote Favorite About Books

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in ones favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings, and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: 'Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it! Boldness has genius, magic, and power in it.'"

Amway Don Wilson - Persistence to Win

Persistence is an important quality for champions. There are times when things get tough. But staying consistent and doing what needs to be done even when it doesn't "feel" good is what winners do. You look at all great athletes and you will see people who worked hard behind the scenes even though they may have felt like doing something else.

Being persistent and doing the right things that move us closer to our goal is not about feelings. It is about being committed to our vision or goal. So figure out what you want. Create a plan of action. And stay committed to the plan even when you don't feel like it. That is what makes champions.

Don Wilson Amway - Staying Persistent

"The secret of success is constancy to purpose." - Benjamin Disraeli

"Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all." - Dale Carnegie
