Don Wilson - No Small Tasks

Don Wilson, “Daily diligence paves the way for tomorrow. Helen Keller observes…”

Don Wilson and Nancy Wilson Quick Quote Favorite

Don Wilson Sports: Lakers on Game 3

The Lakers are not proud of their recent performance. Kobe and Jackson talk about the Lakers going in to game 3 tonight...

Kobe Bryant might be called upon to put the Los Angeles Lakers on his back in Game 3 against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night.

"I might just have to run him 48 minutes [in Game 3]," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. "He might just have to find his spots [to rest] on the floor rather than taking him off the court."

Something has to change for the Lakers, whom Jackson described as "depressed and humiliated" on Wednesday.

"It's accurate. I don't know how you wouldn't be after what happened last night," forward Luke Walton said of Jackson's assessment after the Lakers watched the horror show that was Game 2 against the Suns.

Only 11 of 193 teams in NBA history have come back from an 0-2 deficit to win a best-of-seven series.

"We're just playing bad," Bryant said. "We've got to do a better job at the defensive end. The big thing is transition defense."

Don Wilson Sports Highlights: Magic & Pistons

This Pistons overtake Magic in game 2. The Pistons lead 2-0 going in to game 3...

Wallace blocked a shot and made a 3-pointer on the opening possessions and finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks to help the Detroit Pistons beat the Orlando Magic 98-90 and take a 2-0 lead in the first-round series.

"Sheed has been very focused ever since we started practicing for the playoffs," Pistons point guard Chauncey Billups said. "You can see the difference in him. When he's like that, we're a difficult team to play."

Former teammate Carlos Arroyo agreed.

"It's so tough to defend them when he's stretching the defense shooting from the outside like a guard," Arroyo said. "He can also score inside and defend, so he really creates problems all over the place."

Wallace insisted the Pistons will not lack incentive in Game 3 on Thursday night in Orlando even though the Magic need to win four of five to eliminate the Eastern Conference's top seed.

Don Wilson IBO: Small Business Owners Pleased

Don Wilson, notes “The Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business poll found that most business owners would do it again in spite of the obstacles.”

Business Findings: Being a successful small business owner has many rewards. In fact, 83% of small business owners say they would do it all over again instead of doing something else. And, three in four say being a small business owner has been better for them financially than working for some other company in the same field.

However, becoming a successful traditional small business owner is not easy. According to those who have been successful in a traditional small business, one of the keys when starting out is to take the time to be better prepared. Save some money; ask for advice from other business owners, accountants, lawyers, and bankers; prepare a written business plan; and stick to that plan during the first few years as a new small business owner.

Don Wilson Sports News: A New Football Team?

There may be a new college football team in the state of Georgia. Nothing is final yet but they brought on the former NFL coach to see if they can make it happen...

Georgia State University President Carl Patton announced Dan Reeves has been retained as a Football Consultant for the study of starting football at Georgia State.

"Since this project is a gargantuan task, Georgia State knew it would take someone special to help us tackle this assignment and help us stir up the necessary passion for getting a football team," McElroy Director of Athletics Mary McElroy said. "So, we are turning to a true football expert to be our team quarterback."

Reeves is a former Americus, Georgia high school quarterback who was once the Most Valuable Player of the Georgia High School All-Star Game. He was a stellar college SEC quarterback who went on to play NFL football as a running back for the Dallas Cowboys. Coach Reeves was an NFL head coach for 23 years and has extensive ties in the football world and state of Georgia. With his expertise in football and contacts with coaches, many of whom are in the college ranks, Georgia State looks to capitalize on his knowledge and relationships.

"Obviously, we are not saying that we are starting a football team, but we are aggressively looking for the answers to see if the financial support will meet the emotional support in order to do that," McElroy added. "If we find that the Georgia State and Atlanta communities would financially embrace this, we realize it is still three to four more years before we could ever field a team."

Georgia State, the second largest university in the state with more than 26,000 students, has completed a Football Feasibility Study and held Town Hall meetings with its faculty, staff and student body to address the possibility of a football program at the University Championship Division level (formerly Division I-AA).

Don Wilson & Colombo DiSalvatore – Leading By Example

Sometimes one of the biggest challenges in life is to be the example for others. Norman Vincent Peale lived a life of example for others.

Colombo DiSalvatore: Don, I know you’ve read many of the Norman Vincent Peale books. Do you have any favorite lessons or stories from them?

Don Wilson: Yes, I do, Colombo. One that comes to mind is the story he tells about his personal friend, JC Penny.

DiSalvatore: What leadership topic were they discussing?

Don Wilson: They were discussing problems that people encounter in life and what they do about them. Dr. Peale asked Penny, “What is your philosophy regarding problems?”

Colombo: I remember that Penny had serious problems to solve as he founded the JC Penny stores.

Don Wilson: He did. JC Penny was ninety-five years old and still speaking and helping other people. He said, “Actually, I’m grateful for all my problems.”

DiSalvatore: That’s not the normal reactions, Don. Did he say why?

Don Wilson: Yes, Columbo, that’s where the real wisdom comes in. JC Penny said, “As each of the problems was overcome I became stronger and more able to meet those yet to come. I grew on my difficulties.”

DiSalvatore: That’s an excellent example of leading by example or as we like to say “Leading out Loud.”

Don Wilson Sports Highlights: Bonds Homer Record

Most everyone knows that Barry Bonds is nearing the career home run record currently held by Hank Aaron. Bonds needs 22 homers this season to pass Aaron and set a new record. I believe Bonds will break the record. But there was an interesting article that says it isn't just a gimmie for Bonds.

22 home runs is still a lot of home runs for a 42 year old player. Some of the points made in the article are very silly but there are some valid points as well. Again, I do believe he will set the new record but it could end up being harder for him than people realize. Or maybe he will set it with no problem? We'll have to wait and see.

Billy Florence: Have A Second Half Mind Set

This is so true. You have to start and finish. Lots of people start things but it is important to not only start things but finish them...

Billy Florence, “Two skills required for progress are to start and to finish. Sports greats often suggest having a second half mindset. Coach Lou Holz teaches us that it’s always too soon to quit.
